JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump said security guarantees for Ukraine could not include protection from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), adding it was ready to help Europe.
"Regarding security, they (European countries) are willing to deploy ground troops. We are willing to help them in various ways, especially, perhaps, the air, because no one has the security we have, really, they don't have it. "There will be some form of security. (But) NATO cannot (involve) because that is not something that will ever happen," said the US President.
"I mean, if you were Russian, would you want your enemy, your opponent, to be on your defensive line? You wouldn't do that," said President Trump.
"So Ukraine has always been considered a kind of buffer between Russia and other European countries. And it is a huge and wide buffer. Everything went smoothly until (former US President Joe) Biden intervened," the US leader said.
