This Is The Reason The Prosecutor's Office Has Not Been Executed By Silfester Matutina Since 2019

JAKARTA - Former Head of the South Jakarta District Attorney's Office (Kajari Jaksel) Anang Supriatna revealed that the obstacle in executing the prison sentence for the convict Silfester Matina was related to the alleged slander case against Jusuf Kalla.

Anang admitted, in 2019, his party had tried to execute Silfester. However, this effort was hampered.

At that time, he did not have time to be executed because he had disappeared. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic is getting worse. Never mind putting people (in prison), those inside must be issued," he said in Jakarta, Thursday, August 14.

Anang, who currently serves as Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General's Office, also revealed that his party had issued an execution warrant.

"Already, please check," he said.

He also emphasized that there was no political pressure behind Silfester's execution.

Furthermore, Anang said that the South Jakarta Kejari had received a notification regarding the legal review (PK) filed by Silfester.

"Later on August 20, there will be a PK (trial) scheduled in court and the South Jakarta Kejari has also received a notification from the court," he said.

Based on information released from the official website of the Case Investigation Information System (SIPP) of the South Jakarta District Court, the PK Silfester application was submitted on Tuesday (5/8).

It is known that Silfester Matutina, who is the General Chair of the Red and White Solidarity (Solmet), was convicted of alleged slander against former Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

He is suspected of spreading slander about Jusuf Kalla during his speech. This case occurred in 2017.

For his actions, Silfester was sentenced to 1 year in prison by the first instance court. Against the verdict, Silfester filed an appeal.

However, at the cassation level in 2019, the Silfester verdict was increased to 1.5 years in prison. Until now, Silfester has not been executed on the decision.
