JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI Chusnunia asked the government to improve the governance of music royalties which are currently polemics in the community.
Chusnunia explained that improving governance is important, especially at this time business actors are anxious about the legal risks if they play music at their place of business.
He understands there are rules related to music screening in public spaces such as cafes that require paying royalties to copyright holders.
These rules include Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright, and Government Regulation Number 56 of 2021 concerning Management of Song and/or Music Copyright Royalties.
"We respect copyright, but it must also be considered the sustainability of MSME actors in order to survive. Do not let the implementation of royalty policies burden business actors," said the head of the commission in charge of the creative economy and MSMEs as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, August 14.
In addition, Chusnunia said that the improvement in royalty governance was deemed necessary because it had an impact on musicians in Indonesia, thus causing debate on social media.
"Therefore, there must be improvements at the Collective Management Institute (LMK) and the National LMK (LMKN) in order to create a fair and accountable royalty system," he said.
