JAKARTA - The French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office (PNAT) announced the opening of an investigation into war crimes and torture committed by Israel against Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) activists, in which there were French citizens.

The convoy of sailors who brought humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip sailed from Barcelona, Spain, on April 15.

However, on May 18, GSF reported that the flotilla had been surrounded and forcibly intercepted by Israeli warships in international waters, about 250 nautical miles off the Gaza coast. All participants in the flotilla were arrested, although they were later released and deported from Israel.

French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu on Tuesday (26/5) said his government would take the issue to court.

On Friday (29/5), French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot confirmed that the French government had filed a report with the Paris prosecutor's office after reports of the torture of French activists by Israel surfaced.

The Israeli regime's national security official, Itamar Ben-Gvir, broadcast a video on May 20 showing Zionist forces forcing all the activists they arrested to kneel in a tied position.

GSF then reported 30 cases of broken bones suffered by the participants of the cruise, in addition to accusing the Zionist forces of sexual harassment against other participants.

Foreign Minister Barrot also confirmed that Itamar Ben-Gvir had been banned from entering French territory.
