Ukraine and Russia exchanged 185 military personnel in the latest prisoner exchange on Friday, officials in both countries said.
In a post on the X social media, President Volodymyr Zelensky said those who were released this time consisted of the military, National Guard, guardsmen, and a civilian.
"Among them are those who have returned after years of being held in Russian captivity, where they have been held since 2022," he tweeted on X as quoted on Friday (5/6).
He also thanked and appreciated all parties who have worked to realize the exchange of prisoners of war this time.
The oldest Ukrainian citizen to be repatriated is 62 years old, according to Kyiv's general staff, as reported by Al Arabiya from Reuters.
Friday's exchange was the second under an agreement between the two countries to swap 1,000 prisoners of war each, as part of a three-day ceasefire brokered by the US in early May.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry in a post on Telegram revealed that the United Arab Emirates, which was the intermediary for the previous round of exchanges, was also a mediator for Friday's exchange.
Quoted from TASS, the returning Russian military members are currently in Belarus. The Commissioner for Human Rights of Russia Yana Lantratova provided assistance to them.
After receiving the necessary psychological and medical treatment, the military members who are released from detention will be taken to Russia for further treatment and rehabilitation at the Ministry of Defense's medical facilities.
