JAKARTA - The Minister of Forestry (Menhut) Raja Juli Antoni said to ensure the safety of Mount Rinjani climbers, the use of applications will be applied to track the presence of climbers who will be implemented at the end of August.

Minister of Forestry Raja Juli said that his party is working with the Federation of Mountainearing Indonesia (FMI) for applications that can track climbers while on the hiking trail.

"With cellphones, we can track them, so it's a kind of tracking, where they are, where they are located, there are 10-20 people that can be seen later in Sembalun and Jakarta here," he explained as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 13.

The use of the application was carried out as a mitigation step when an incident occurred in the Mount Rinjani climbing area, including when climbers fell, to facilitate search and rescue efforts.

"The challenge is to strengthen the signal. Later in some dangerous places we will strengthen the process, so that once again there will be zero waste, zero accidents. No garbage, no accidents," said King Antoni.

The application was tested during the closing period of the Mount Rinjani climb, which was reopened on August 11. However, currently it has not been implemented for climbing.

The process of implementing the use of the application itself is still waiting for the process of strengthening internet signals in the climbing route area at Gunung Rinjani National Park. It is planned that the new climbing standard will also be implemented in other climbing areas in Indonesia.

"By the end of August, in early September it was already running and this is once again the pilot project at Rinjani," he said.

In addition to using applications, the Ministry of Transportation has also begun to implement new standard operating procedures (SOPs), including conditions for experience climbing Mount Rinjani, health checks, assistance by experienced guides or climbers, use of premium insurance and so on.
