Hundreds Of Residents Affected By North Morowali Floods

PALU - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Sulawesi Province recorded 58 heads of families (KK) or 232 people affected by flooding in Korololama Village, Petasia District, North Morowali Regency.

"Based on the results of this provisional assessment, 58 families or 232 people in Korololama Village, Petasia District, were affected by the flood," said Head of Central Sulawesi BPBD Akris Fattah Yunus as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, August 9.

The flood occurred on Saturday (9/8) in the early hours of the morning at around 02.00 WITA, because the intensity of high rainfall resulted in overflowing local river water and submerging residential areas with a height of 50 centimeters.

Akris said the local BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC) was coordinating with local village officials and conducting an assessment at the location for the number of affected houses and infrastructure.

"There were no casualties, but the village apparatus and the team are currently monitoring and helping the local community," he said.

He said the current urgent need is the construction of gabions and normalizing rivers as mitigation measures for flood prevention.

Until now, he said, the rain was still pouring down and the flood was still inundating the residents' settlements.
