DPR: New York Declaration Becomes A Positive Signal For The Struggle For Palestine's Independence

JAKARTA - Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Syamsu Rizal, welcomed the steps of the international forum through the New York Declaration that supports the establishment of the Palestinian state and encourages the implementation of a two-state solution as a permanent solution for the Palestinian'Israeli conflict.

According to Syamsu Rizal, the declaration is a positive signal for the struggle of the Palestinian people who have been fighting for their right to independence for decades.

This New York declaration confirms that the international community does not remain silent. Support for a two-state solution is a strategic step to ensure the Palestinian people have the right to live independently, side by side peacefully with other countries," said Syamsu Rizal, Tuesday, August 5.

Rizal emphasized that Indonesia is consistently at the forefront of supporting Palestinian independence, in accordance with the mandate of the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution. He hopes that the declaration will be a momentum for the United Nations, member states, and related parties to pressure Israel to stop military aggression and initiate fair negotiations.

"For Indonesia, support for Palestine is not just foreign politics, but a moral and constitutional call. We at Commission I of the DPR RI will continue to oversee so that Indonesia's diplomacy in international forums is more assertive and effective," he said.

The PKB legislator from the South Sulawesi I electoral district also invited the Indonesian people to continue to provide humanitarian support for Palestinians affected by the conflict. He also encouraged the government to strengthen cooperation with OIC member countries and pro-Palestinian blocs at the United Nations to accelerate recognition of de jure a Palestinian country.

According to Rizal, the international community must also urge Israel to open access and not limit the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gazans who are starving, due to a blockade of aid by Israel.

"The New York declaration must be a trigger so that the solution of the two countries does not only stop on paper, but is truly realized for the sake of justice and peace in the Middle East," he concluded.

For information, according to data from the Gaza Health Authority, more than 60,930 Palestinians have died since October 2023, including at least 18,430 children. Meanwhile, hundreds of Gazans died from malnutrition and hunger.

Earlier, the international community held a High-Level International Conference on Peaceful Resolution of Palestinian Issues and the Implementation of the Two-State Solutions at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, from July 28 to 30, 2025.

During the conference, France and Saudi Arabia acted as co-chairs. Meanwhile, the United States (US) and Israel chose to be absent. The conference resulted in a New York Declaration. The document contains support for the establishment of the Palestinian state as well as support for the two-state solution.
