JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) will rearrange Gambir Station so that it can serve electric train (KRL) or Commuter Line.

This step is carried out to increase connectivity between KRL services and long-distance trains (KAJJ), so as to facilitate community mobility.

Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi said the presence of KRL services at Gambir Station aims to create better intermodal integration for train transport users.

"Actually, Gambir is to provide a kind of, how do we serve the community, there is connectivity. So the KRL stops, then it can also be served by long-distance trains," said Dudy in a media briefing in Jakarta, Friday, June 26.

As part of the rearrangement, the Ministry of Transportation will beautify Gambir Station as well as increase the number of platforms and train lines to accommodate KRL operations and long-distance trains.

Dudy explained that the concept of beautifying not only changes the physical appearance of the station to be more modern, but also adjusts its function which has only served long-distance train travel.

"So we see, beautifying is changing the face of Gambir from what it is now to a more modern Gambir face. Changing the face of Gambir which was originally only serving long-distance, also serving KRL trains," he said.

However, Dudy said the number of KRL trips that will stop at Gambir Station is still in the counting stage. The government will determine the capacity of the service according to operational needs.

"So it's not entirely possible. Later we will see how many KRLs will be served there. What is certain is that there is an increase in the number of tracks to accommodate long-distance trains and also KRL," he said.

Furthermore, Dudy ensured that the addition of KRL services at Gambir Station would not change the operational scheme at Manggarai Station, which remains the main node of the Commuter Line service.

"Then Gambir will serve long distances and KRL. The relationship with Manggarai, it remains," he said.
