GARUT - The Garut Police Department stated that the Banjarwangi road in Garut Regency, West Java, is now passable by vehicles in both directions after being blocked by landslide material.

The Head of the Garut Police Traffic Unit, First Inspector Aang Andi Suhandi, stated that joint officers have successfully cleared the landslide material that had blocked the road since Sunday evening, August 3, 2025.

"It's now passable from both directions," Aang said when contacted by phone by Antara on Monday, August 4.

Meanwhile, Banjarwangi Police Chief, First Inspector Ipar Suparlan, stated that the landslide occurred at around 9:30 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) in Lawang Angin Village, Banjarwangi District. The landslide covered 10 meters of the road and reached a height of 5 meters.

"The landslide completely blocked the road, preventing both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles from passing," said Ipar.

He confirmed that there were no fatalities in the incident. However, the incident disrupted traffic flow and endangered road users, especially at night when lighting was limited.

According to Ipar, the Banjarwangi area is prone to landslides due to unstable soil conditions. When heavy rain falls, the soil surface is easily eroded, causing landslides.

"This incident was caused by high-intensity rain that hit the unstable area and ultimately buried the road," he said.

A joint team of officers from the police, village government, and local residents immediately moved quickly to manually remove the landslide material so that road access could be reopened.
