No Need To Spend Again, Teachers In Mimika Can Now Lecture To The S1 Level

TIMIKA - Mimika Regency Government, Central Papua, this year finances education at the level of strata one (S1) for teachers who do not have a bachelor's degree. This policy was taken as an effort to improve the quality of educators in the region.

Mimika Regent Johannes Rettob said the first phase program was opened to 100 teachers, both state civil servants (ASN) and non-ASN, who teach in public and private schools.

"There is no difference, because these teachers teach Mimika children. So it cannot be distinguished," said Johannes Rettob in Timika, Antara, Monday, August 4.

He emphasized that this step was taken so that all teachers in Mimika in the future could have educator certification. One of the requirements for obtaining certification is to have a bachelor's degree in education.

The Mimika Regent has ordered the Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) to record all teachers who have not studied higher to the S1 level. Teachers who meet the requirements can be submitted to get tuition assistance from local governments.

Teachers who can participate in this program must be recommended by the principal to Disdikbud, then proposed to the local government. I hope that what is recommended is really an active teacher who teaches in Mimika. Don't let a new teacher be a teacher first," said John.

One of the additional requirements in the selection of this program is the working period of teachers at the school where they serve.

According to Johannes Rettob, so far there are not a few teachers in Mimika who have to pay for their own advanced education in order to meet the certification requirements. He considered that this should not continue to happen.

"Things like that should no longer happen. The government must be present and intervene, because they are teaching for the development of our children's future," he said.
