Agreeing On SC And Participants, The PWI Unity Congress Will Be Held 29-30 August

JAKARTA Two main characters in the dualism of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), Hendry Ch Bangun and Zulmansyah Sekedang, finally reached an agreement, Saturday, August 2. They agreed two crucial points ahead of the implementation of the PWI Unity Congress on August 29, 2025 in Cikarang, West Java.

The agreement includes the appointment of a replacement for two members of the Wina Armada Sukardi who died, as well as Atal S. Depari who resigned and the determination of a list of congress participants.

This process was mediated by a member of the Press Council, Dahlan Dahi, who facilitated an intensive meeting between the two camps. As a result, SC and the organizing committee (OC) can now work fully to prepare the congress that is awaited.

"Alhamdulillah, SC is complete. The congress participants have also been agreed according to the PDPRT. We hope that all the rules prepared by SC will still refer to PDPRT, and whatever the results are, they will not be sued by any party," said Zulmansyah.

Hendry added that the replacement for SC had been determined, participants from 39 provinces and special branches of Surakarta had been approved in principle. "Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the committee will send official invitations to all participants," said Hendry Ch Bangun Saturday, August 2.

Both agreed to establish Sakti Siregar and Sibatang Kayu Harahap (or Diapari Sibatangkayu) as replacements for Vienna and Atal. They will join the previously determined five SC members.

SC is tasked with determining the conditions for the nomination of the General Chairperson of PWI. Until now, at least seven names have emerged as strong candidates. SC also opens space for prospective candidates to prepare administrative documents and requirements from the start.

The agenda for the first day of the congress is focused on organizational consolidation and technical preparation. While the second day will be the moment of determination: the election of the General Chair and the Chairman of the PWI Honorary Council.

This congress is expected to be a turning point, closing the sheet of conflict and opening up a new era for the oldest journalist organization in Indonesia.
