Vice President Gibran Asks For BSU Funds To Be Used For Productive Activities

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka asked the beneficiary communities of Wage Subsidy Assistance or BSU to use these funds for productive activities that can be felt by all family members.

"Currently, the new academic year (BSU funds) is to buy books, to buy bags, for productive activities," he said while reviewing the distribution of BSU at the Mataram Post Office, Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara, Antara, Friday, August 1.

Gibran appealed to beneficiaries not to use BSU funds for online gambling or online gambling, because the account of the beneficiary can be tracked by the government.

He also appealed to the fathers when receiving assistance not to go directly to the shop to buy cigarettes. The cash assistance is better used to buy family necessities.

"Hopefully the assistance will be useful and once again please use it for productive activities," concluded Gibran.

BSU is a government program that is given to workers or laborers to maintain people's purchasing power in the midst of the current economic challenges, such as inflation and the economic slowdown.

The assistance program was provided in the form of cash amounting to IDR 300 thousand per month for two months. The cash paid at once with a total aid fund of IDR 600 thousand.

The government disbursed a budget of IDR 10.72 trillion for BSU in June and July 2025 which was given to 565 thousand honorary teachers and 17.3 million workers with a salary of under IDR 3.5 million.

A beneficiary named Yayuk Sumarni who works as a salesperson at PT Terus Jaya Abadi admitted that he had received cash assistance from the program through the post office and was taken on July 28, 2025.

He said the newly disbursed aid money had been used half and hoped that the government could return to providing similar assistance to low-wage workers.

Minister of Manpower Yassierli said BSU was only distributed once for two months with a total assistance of Rp600 thousand without deductions.

The government has extended the disbursement period until August 6, 2025, to provide opportunities for workers, especially in remote areas of 3T, who have not disbursed the funds through the post office.

In West Nusa Tenggara, the BSU distribution figure has reached 92.10 percent or equivalent to Rp. 26.97 billion out of a total fund of Rp. 29.23 billion. The number of workers who have received assistance is 44,966 people out of the total recipient workers reaching 48,822 people.
