TNI Joint Task Force Disables 2 OPM Members, Confiscates Important Documents

JAKARTA - The TNI Joint Task Force held an operation in Kunga Village, Ilaga District and Gunalu Village, Onerik District, Puncak Regency.

Two members of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) who have been actively carrying out acts of terror have been successfully paralyzed. Both are Lison Murib alias Limar Elas in Kunga Village and Alena Murib alias Alerid Murib in Gunalu Village.

Lison Murib alias Limar Elas is a fugitive who has been wanted by the authorities for a long time. His name has been on the Police Wanted List (DPO) since April 2020 after being involved in the shooting of civilians in the parking area of the OB-1 building, Kuala Kencana, Mimika, on March 30, 2020.

In 2021, he will reappear in Puncak Regency as Danyon Kunga, strengthening the OPM's armed structure in the region.

The evidence that was successfully secured from the two operating locations were millions of rupiah in cash, several sharp weapons (parang, arrows), five HP units, one HT unit, one binoculars unit, 5.56 mm caliber ammunition, as well as documents and personal goods indicating involvement in the separatist network.

Meanwhile, from Gunalu Village, tens of millions of rupiah in cash, four magazens, 7.62 mm caliber munitions and 5.56 mm, the Morning Star flag, the TPNPB stamp, documents containing requests for funds, as well as various communication and logistical equipment.

The findings of cash and documents strengthen the alleged flow of illegal funds either through forced requests to government officials or confiscation of the community to support the activities of separatist groups in the central highlands of Papua.

The Head of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, Maj. Gen. Kristomei Sianturi, explained that this operation was part of the implementation of the Main Tasks of the TNI in Military Operations Apart from War (OMSP) as stipulated in Law Number 3 of 2025 concerning Amendments to Law no. 34 of 2004 concerning the TNI.

Kapuspen TNI emphasized that all soldiers' actions in this operation were carried out in a professional, measurable manner, and in accordance with applicable regulations.

"Every action of TNI soldiers in operations to deal with armed groups (OPM) is carried out in a professional, measurable, and based on statutory regulations. However, outside the aspect of prosecution, the TNI remains consistent in carrying out a humanist and dialogical territorial approach, as part of long-term efforts to build national security stability, especially in Papua," he said.
