JAKARTA - The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI) ensures that no Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) are victims of armed conflicts in the border areas of Cambodia and Thailand.

The Director General of Protection of the Ministry of P2MI, Rinardi, said that his party had collected data and information regarding the distribution of PMI in Cambodia and Thailand, especially those in conflict-affected areas in Oddar Meanchey (Kamboja) Province and Ubon Ratchathani Province, Si Sa Ket, and Surin (Thailand).

"Based on the information we received, so far no Indonesian migrant workers have been victims of the conflict," said Rinardi in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 29.

As an anticipatory measure, KemenP2MI has also established cross-sectoral coordination to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens (WNI), especially migrant workers, in both countries.

"Intensively, the Ministry of P2MI will continue to coordinate with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh to ensure the safety of Indonesian migrant workers in the affected areas," he said.

The situation in the border area is now said to have subsided, after Cambodia and Thailand agreed to a ceasefire in peace negotiations held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Monday, July 28, 2025. The agreement came into force at 00.00 local time.

"This is an important step in maintaining regional stability and protection of Indonesian citizens, especially Indonesian Migrant Workers," said Rinardi.

However, KemenP2MI remains on standby for potential conflict escalation in the future. Rinardi emphasized that the government had prepared an emergency scenario, including a limited evacuation option if the situation worsened again.

"KemenP2MI together with related ministries and institutions will carry out security assessments, draw up contingency plans, and strengthen communication with migrant workers. Limited evacuations will be carried out if conflicts increase again and threaten the safety of Indonesian citizens," he explained.

Rinardi also reminded PMIs in Cambodia and Thailand to remain vigilant, limit activities to conflict-prone areas, and continue to monitor official information from the government.

"Don't be easily provoked by unclear information. Use official sources such as the website or social media of the Ministry of P2MI and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," he said.

As a form of alertness, the government opened information and reporting channels through the KemenP2MI hotline at 0811 8080 141, the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh hotline at +855 12 813 282, the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok hotline at +66 92 903 1103, and the Indonesian Citizen Care Portal on the website www.peduliwni.kemlu.go.id.

"KemenP2MI will continue to ensure that all reporting channels are active and responsive," said Rinardi.
