JAKARTA - A whale was found stranded and dead in the sea waters of Sletreng Village, Kapongan District, Situbondo Regency, East Java, on Friday, July 25.
The marine mammals, which are estimated to be about 20 meters long, were found dead and rotting by a local fisherman about 200 meters from the shoreline.
"This morning when I was about to go fishing to see the rotten whale carcass, more than 20 meters long, it was black and thick," said Sletreng fisherman Riko Aldianto, in Situbondo, Friday, quoted by Antara.
He told that an unknown whale was found when he and his two friends went fishing by boat around WIB.
Initially, said Riko, the whale carcass was about six kilometers from the shoreline of Sletreng Village and because it was carried away by the current, the whale carcass is now about 200 meters from the shoreline.
"This morning when I found it was still far from the shoreline about six kilometers, maybe because it was carried away by the current until now it is getting closer to the shoreline," he said.
Until now, the whale carcass is still adrift on the coast of Sletreng Village and is a spectacle for local residents.
