JAKARTA - Israeli authorities charged a soldier with alleged spying for Iran in exchange for money.

The unnamed Israeli army has sent videos of Israeli missile interceptions and locations hit by Iranian rocket fire in the 12-day war last month between the two sworn enemies.

"This is considered a very serious incident involving direct contact between an IDF soldier and hostile foreign elements," the police and security agency Shin Bet said in a statement on Thursday, July 17.

A military court ordered the soldier to remain in custody until next week.

News of the indictment comes just a day after Israel launched an unusual national media campaign warning its citizens against spying on Iran.

The ad stated that people who received Iranian cash in exchange for information threatened a prison sentence of up to 15 years.

Iran itself executed several people over the past month after they were found guilty of cooperating with Israel and facilitating covert operations in the country.
