Germany Continues To Export Military Weapons To Israel Despite Criticism

JAKARTA - Germany has continued its military exports to Israel in recent months despite signs of worrying genocide in Gaza.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Wednesday, July 16, the German government confirmed that it had approved the delivery of military equipment and weapons worth 250.5 million euros (around Rp4.7 trillion) to Israel between January 1, 2024 and June 26, 2025.

According to official data, the approved export license amounted to 161.1 million euros (around Rp3.03 trillion) in 2024 and 28 million euros (around Rp526.9 billion) in the first quarter of 2025.

The government released the figures in response to a parliamentary investigation by the opposition Left Party, calling for an immediate cessation of arms exports to Israel.

Germany has long been a staunch supporter of Israel, with political leaders repeatedly citing the country's historical responsibilities towards Israel, which has its roots in the past of Nazi Germany and the Holocaust.

Arms exports to Israel were suspended last year when Nicaragua filed a lawsuit against Germany at the International Court (ICJ), accusing Germany of involvement in genocide in Gaza.

German officials then continued exports, arguing that they had received written guarantees from Israel regarding compliance with international law.

They also cited Iran's threats as another justification for continuing arms shipments.

Since Israel launched its military campaign in Gaza in 2023, more than 58,000 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 100,000 others have been injured, mostly women and children.

Israel is currently facing a genocide lawsuit in the ICJ over its actions in Gaza, in which at least 1.9 million Palestinians are still displaced and suffering from food shortages, medical supplies, and other basic necessities that have resulted in severe suffering from local residents.
