JAKARTA - Senior Hamas officials have denied claims of progress in negotiations on the ceasefire in Gaza.

"(Israel) has not sent a new map or revised map related to the military withdrawal from the Gaza Strip," Hamas political bureau member Bassem Naim told AFP, Wednesday, July 16.

He added that his party had not yet received a map of the plan to withdraw Israeli troops from the Palestinian territories.

Bassem then accused Israel of wanting to "expand military control" in Gaza for the long term.

Previously, United States (US) President Donald Trump was optimistic about the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.

Trump hopes there will be progress in the negotiations this week.

"Gaza, we are in discussion and hopefully we will finish it," Trump told reporters on Sunday local time.
