The Plan To Move The MH Thamrin Statue Is Not Easy, The DKI Provincial Government Is Looking For A Location According To The Permit Of The Ministry Of State Secretariat

Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno admitted that the DKI Provincial Government has not been able to determine the location for the transfer of the MH Thamrin statue which is now at the end of Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan.

Previously, there was a discourse that the statue would be moved to the DKI Jakarta City Hall until it was brought to the museum. Now, Rano revealed that the DKI Provincial Government wants the MH Thamrin Statue to be moved to the fountain of the Horse Statue Roundabout.

The plan to move to the Horse Statue fountain was also submitted to the Ministry of State Secretariat (Kemensetneg).

"Our wish is actually in the fountain. But it turns out that there are provisions, it is included in the cultural heritage. We have written to the State Secretariat. The State Secretariat suggested that if possible, move, not there," said Rano, Tuesday, July 15.

According to the provisions, buildings or cultural heritage areas cannot be drastically restored or changed. Rano admitted that it was not that easy to find a location that was in accordance with the permit of the Ministry of State Secretariat.

Thus, Rano revealed an alternative location that could be the placement of the MH Thamrin statue, namely in the area of the former police post in front of the Sarinah shopping center, Jalan MH Thamrin.

"The point in front of Sarinah, who used to be a police station, is now closed. It is much more flexible for us to move," said Rano.

The DKI Provincial Government is currently still reviewing the mechanism for placing the MH Thamirn statue if it will be placed in front of Sarinah. Moreover, this point is still the construction area of MRT Jakarta phase 2.

"The governor ideally at the end, so that the end of Thamrin is there. Only because there are technicalities, yes we also have to follow that. We are still waiting," he explained.
