JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) is more than just trade, but also respect, justice and desire to build a shared future.
President Prabowo said in a press statement with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen after Sunday's meeting.
"This is an important moment. After years of hard work, we agreed to move forward," said the President of the Republic of Indonesia, citing a joint press statement, Monday, July 14.
"For Indonesia, CEPA is not only about trade, but also about justice, respect, and building a strong shared future," he said.
"This agreement must support our efforts to develop industry, create jobs, and strengthen sustainable development goals. We are ready to immediately resolve it, in a way that benefits the two nations," said the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
The Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) was first negotiated in July 2016. At least 19 rounds of official meetings and a number of meetings between sessions were held before the agreement reached at the European Union Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium Sunday.
"While the President of the European Commission in its gilliran said this deal would create more opportunities in key industries such as agriculture and the automotive sector," added von der Leyen.
"There is a lot of potential that has not been touched in our trade relations, and therefore this agreement comes at the right time because this new agreement will open new markets," he said.
