Hundreds Of Pondok Kelapa Residents Hold Demonstrations Rejecting The Closing Of TPS Unilaterally

JAKARTA - Hundreds of residents of RW 13 Pondok Kelapa Village held a demonstration against the closure of the Waste Disposal Site (TPS) located on Jalan Marine Barat, Duren Sawit District, East Jakarta, Saturday, July 12, morning.

In the action, residents unfurled a 2 meter long banner that reads the rejection of closing the TPS at that location.

"This is a citizen's activity to normalize the function of Taps which has been used for 30 years by residents. So if this is fenced with zinc, it will not work normally. It disrupts the process of dismantling garbage by residents," said RW 13 resident Siswo Harsono to reporters at the location.

In addition to rejecting the closure, residents also admitted that they were restless because it was difficult to dispose of household waste every day.

The closing of the TPS was carried out unilaterally using a zinc fence since July 1, 2025. In fact, the location of the waste disposal site has been around for more than 30 years.

"Residents ask that this must be normal, don't let any parties interfere, don't let anyone stop it. Don't disturb the waste disposal process," he said.

According to Siswo, there are 8 RT residents in RW 13 with a population of 650 families. All residents of RW 13 threw garbage for more than 30 years at the TPS.

"This TPS has been around for more than 30 years, so far residents have been throwing garbage here. Garbage transportation from the LH Service (car). This is what the LH Service built, the provincial government's assets," he said.

Slamet, an officer carrying garbage from RW 13 residents, said that he felt disturbed during the waste disposal process at the TPS because of the fence since July 1, 2025.

"The existence of these pagers is so that we feel disturbed when transporting residents' waste to the LH Service car. The activity of transporting garbage to cars is also difficult, getting in and out of cars and carts is also difficult. If the fence is dismantled, the disposal will run smoothly, freely," said Slamet.

As is known, the garbage transportation in the neighborhood of RW 13 Pondok Kelapa Village is carried out every day by garbage cart officers.

"Daily transporting a minimum of two garbage carts per RT. In total, 18 garbage carts per day from all over RT. Hopefully, RW 13 can forever dispose of garbage here. Let this garbage disposal site operate again, so that it runs smoothly," closed the man who has been a garbage transport officer for 25 years.
