BMKG Warns Of Heavy Rain Accompanied By Lightning In Several Big Cities Today

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning in the form of potential light, moderate to heavy rain which could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in various major cities in Indonesia on Monday, July 7.

Forecast Rira Damanik was quoted by ANTARA as explaining that in general the convergence area extends in the Makassar Strait, the southwest Indian Ocean of Banten, Southeast Sulawesi to Central Sulawesi, central Papua to West Papua.

This condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth along areas that are passed by convergence or convergence.

Therefore, his party predicts that several major cities will have the potential to experience moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, including Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Pangkal Pinang, Tanjung Selor, Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, Mamuju, Sorong and Merauke.

Meanwhile, several other big cities will experience light to moderate rain, namely Jambi, Bengkulu, Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Denpasar, Samarinda, Palangka Raya, Banjarmasin, Kendari, Ternate, Ambon, Nabire, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya.

Several other big cities are predicted to experience only cloudy conditions today, including Padang, Aceh, Pekanbaru, Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Surabaya, Kupang, Mataram, Pontianak, Makassar, and Manokwari.

For the forecast for sea wave heights in Indonesian territory, BMKG predicts that generally it is in the range of 0.5 to 2.5 m, while high waves up to 4 m have the potential to occur around the waters of the South Indian Ocean in Banten to Central Java.

His party also appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for tidal flooding on the coast of West Sumatra, north of Tangerang, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.
