Responding To Election Separation Decision, PKB Proposes Regional Heads To Be Elected By DPRD

JAKARTA - Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction Jazilul Fawaid stated that his party proposed that regional heads be elected by DPRD members. Because according to him, in Article 22E of the Constitution on Elections, the implementation of general elections only includes the presidential election, the legislative election of the DPR, and the legislative elections of the DPRD.

This was conveyed by Jazilul in response to the latest decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which separates the implementation of national elections and local elections.

"Actually, the election that we mean that is included in the electoral regime in the Constitution, there is no regional election there. What is done every five years in Article 22, it selects the President, DPR RI, DPD, Provincial DPRD, and level II DPRD," said Jazilul at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, July 4.

Then based on existing regulations, Jazilul continued, regional heads were also elected democratically, not directly like the President. Therefore, Jazilul emphasized that the regional elections should only be elected by DPRD members.

"PKB had suggested, and we will also propose later if there is a revision, a discussion on the revision of the Election Law, it should be decided that the Constitutional Court is okay. That for the regional elections to be simultaneously elected by DPRD members, that would be better," said the Deputy Chairperson of the PKB Umjm.

"If the Constitutional Court argued that why a central and regional election design was made, it was because he was tired, he said, he didn't focus. It would be more economical if the election was chosen by a member of the DPRD level II. Members of the DPRD level II as a representation, as people who are mandated by their people at level II. So they can determine who the regent is and it is easier," continued Jazilul.
