The West Sumatra Fish and Plants Quarantine Center (West Sumatra) has again destroyed illegal commodities or without complete documents from Malaysia and Singapore weighing 83.4 kilograms.

"The destruction of commodities in the form of processed fruits and meat is due to not having quarantine documents," said the Daily Implementation (Plh) of the Fish and West Sumatra Animal Quarantine Stall Nurdin Kamil as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 2.

Nurdin said the commodities from Malaysia and Singapore that were destroyed included mangoes, apples, acid fruit, oranges, wine, cerium hair, lemons, and processed beef.

The items were confiscated by officers from May 2 to June 24, 2025, which were transported by passengers by plane.

From the data obtained by the officers, the commodity will be taken to Padang City, Bukittinggi City, Jambi City, Pesisir Selatan Regency, Agam Regency, and Padang Pariaman Regency.

Kamil explained that the detention and destruction of a number of these commodities refers to Law Number 21 of 2019 concerning Fish and Plant Quarantine. This step is taken to ensure and prevent entry or the possibility of spreading pests carried away from other countries through these commodities.

"We hope that in the future people will be more concerned with the commodities brought. Because if there are pests that are carried away, they can have a negative impact on agriculture and health," he said.

During the first half of 2025, the local Fish and Plant Quarantine Center has destroyed 252.1 kilograms of commodities without complete documents.

The commodities that were confiscated and then destroyed were fruits, processed meat, and dry fish products. The various commodities were brought by passengers from Malaysia, Singapore, China, and Italy.

All commodities or carrier media, both animals, fish, plants and products that are detained and destroyed, do not complete quarantine requirements documents. This means that these commodities are not guaranteed health and safety so that they are at risk of bringing in pests and dangerous diseases.
