JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the DKI Provincial Government has prepared to handle the prediction of the 2025 dry season which will be delayed and shorter.

"If indeed the weather is delayed for the dryness and will be shorter, the Jakarta government must be ready for that," said Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Monday, June 30.

Pramono admitted that he had communicated with the Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to discuss in more detail the weather monitoring in Jakarta in the future.

This, continued Pramono, became the basis for the government to anticipate in a number of ways. One of them is by alerting pumps to reduce the impact of flooding from high rainfall before the dry season occurs.

"It's just that the rainfall often changes like yesterday. Even though it's not in Jakarta, the impact will end up in Jakarta like in West Jakarta, when there is a very high traffic jam," explained Pramono.

In addition, the DKI Provincial Government also periodically monitors food supplies to prevent the scarcity of its commodities.

"If you hear it yourself, because Jakarta is for the inventory system or food stocks are running well," he said.

Previously, BMKG revealed that most areas in Indonesia were still in the category of the rainy season. In fact, when referring to the climatological calendar, it is natural that the dry season has started.

Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati explained that the early decline in the dry season was caused by higher rainfall conditions than usual during the period April to May 2025, which should have been a transition period from the rainy season to the dry season.

BMKG has previously predicted an increase in rainfall in southern Indonesia, such as southern Sumatra, Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.

"The season and monthly predictions that we have released since last March show an anomaly of the above normal rainfall in these areas, and this is the main basis in predicting the postponement of this year's dry season," said Dwikorita.

Based on the latest monthly weather predictions, BMKG estimates that rainfall conditions with the above normal category will continue in parts of the region until October 2025.

Therefore, BMKG revealed that the dry season in 2025 tends to have a shorter duration compared to the normal nature of the above normal rain.

With regard to that, the conditions of rainfall that remain high during the dry period carry two sides of the consequences.

On the one hand, the presence of rain during the dry season can be a blessing for rice farmers, because irrigation water supplies are relatively available. This can support the survival of the planting and production of agriculture.

However, on the other hand, increasing rainfall in the dry season also poses a risk to horticultural agriculture, which is generally more sensitive to high humidity conditions.

Horticultural plants such as chilies, onions, and tomatoes are very vulnerable to attacks by pests and diseases due to excess moisture.

"We encourage horticultural farmers to anticipate this condition by preparing a good drainage system and adequate plant protection," he added.
