The Deputy Minister Of Home Affairs Learns The Constitutional Court's Decision To Separate The Elections For The Longest 2 Years

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto revealed that his party would study and promise to accommodate the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the need for a time lag for the National Election and Pilkada.

Bearing in mind, he said, because the Ministry of Home Affairs is currently in the process of revising Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections.

"We first study in more detail the Constitutional Court's decision. What is certain is that the Constitutional Court's decision is final and we place it in the context of revision as one of the inputs," said Bima Arya at IPDN, Jatinangor, Sumedang, West Java, Thursday, June 26, as reported by ANTARA.

He emphasized that the Constitutional Court's decision will be considered to be included in the process of revising the Election Law. However, he said the execution and implementation must first be studied in very detail.

"But before, there have been inputs related to the separation between circumstances and elections. Yes, that is one that is intensively voiced by campus friends and election observers," he said.

The Constitutional Court (MK) has decided that the national and regional elections (elections) will be separated by a minimum interval of two years or a maximum of two years and six months.

National elections include the election of members of the DPR, DPD, as well as the president and vice president, while regional elections consist of elections for members of the provincial DPRD, district/city DPRD, as well as regional heads and representatives.

"Granted the petitioner's petition in part," said Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Suhartoyo reading the verdict No. 135/PUU-XXII/2024 in the Plenary Court Session Room, Jakarta, Thursday.

In this case, the Constitutional Court granted some of the applications submitted by the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) represented by the Chairman of the Management of the Needdem Foundation Khoirunnisa Nur Agustyati and the Treasurer of the Management of the Needdem Foundation, Irmalidarti.

With this decision, the Constitutional Court ordered regional elections to be held after the national election.
