Paulus Tannos Rejects Extradition, Trial In Singapore Continues On August 7

JAKARTA - The trial or total hearing of the fugitive extradition of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in the case of corruption in the electronic identity card (e-KTP), Paulus Tannos, which will be held on June 23-25, has not been completed. This process will continue on August 7 next.

This was conveyed by the Indonesian Ambassador in Singapore Suryopratomo who said that the three-day trial had only discussed objections from Paulus. The entrepreneur, who changed his name to Thian Po Thjin, still refuses to be extradited to the country.

"They remain on the stance to refuse to be extradited for various reasons, including the matter of the Extradition Agreement which contradicts the Singapore Extradition Law," Suryopratomo told reporters quoted on Thursday, June 26.

Suryopratomo said the judge in Singapore decided that the trial would be held on August 7 with the agenda of hearing the witness filed by Paulus. The lawyer has been asked to hand over the name of the party who will testify.

"PT lawyers will file witnesses who strengthened their objections and the trial will continue on July 7 and the judge asks for the names of witnesses to be submitted by PT," he said.

The preliminary hearing regarding the extradition of Paulus Tannos was held at State Court, 1st Havelock Square. This process is led by District Judge, Luke Tan

As previously reported, the Ministry of Law (Kemenkum) said the extradition of fugitives from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) related to corruption in the procurement of electronic ID cards (e-KTP), Paulus Tannos from Singapore continues to proceed. There is a trial that must be carried out even though local authorities reject the request for a suspension of detention he submitted.

After the trial at the Singapore court, there is still an appeal process. Both Indonesia and Paulus Tannos have only one chance.

For information, Paulus Tannos, who is the President Director of PT Sandipala Arthapura, was finally arrested by Singaporean authorities after being on the wanted list since 2021. He was named a suspect in the corruption case in the procurement of electronic identity cards (e-KTP) by the KPK in 2019.

At that time he was named a suspect by the KPK along with three other people, namely Isnu Edhi Wijaya as the former President Director of the Indonesian National Printing Corporation (PNRI); 2014-2019 DPR RI member Miryam S Haryani; and former Head of the Information Technology Technical Team for the Application of e-KTP Husni Fahmi.
