Indonesian Foreign Minister: Indonesian Citizens Start To Be Evacuated From Iran Through Azerbaijan And Jordan

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono said a number of Indonesian citizens (WNI) were successfully evacuated from Iran through Azerbaijan and Jordan.

In a statement to media from Istanbul, Turkey, Foreign Minister Sugiono said, to this day 93 Indonesian citizens have been successfully evacuated from Iran, along with 3 embassy staff and 1 Iranian citizen who is an Indonesian pair.

"Alhamdulillah, it has crossed the Iran-Azerbaijan border and is currently resting in Baku," said the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Saturday, June 21.

"The 16-hour journey, thank God, went safely and quite smoothly, given the situation on the border which is a bit more crowded than usual," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.

At the same time, continued Foreign Minister Sugiono, the Indonesian government also succeeded in evacuating 4 Indonesian citizens through Jordan. Everything is in good condition according to the Indonesian Foreign Minister, while the communication process with other Indonesian citizens continues.

"Alhamdulillah, so far the first stage that we have done has gone well," said the Indonesian Foreign Minister.

Today, Foreign Minister Sugiono will take part in the 51st Ministerial Conference (KTM) of Islamic Cooperation Organizations (OIC), one of which will discuss the situation in Iran.

"We hope that the support and prayers from all of you so that the evacuation process for our brothers and sisters can run smoothly, and this situation will soon subside. There is a desire and wisdom to be able to bring the tension of this conflict to the negotiating table," concluded the Indonesian Foreign Minister.
