MAMUJU - A "Falsekillerwhale" (Pseudorca crassidens) or commonly known as a false killer whale has been successfully evacuated and released into the sea after being stranded on Bajoedi Beach, Polewali Mandar Regency, West Sulawesi.

Receiving this information, Yusri and the Sahabat Penyu team immediately headed to the location to conduct checks and assist in the rescue process.
The evacuation process was then carried out together with residents and personnel from the Air Police Unit (Polair) of the Polewali Mandar Police using a boat.

"The results of the preliminary examination showed that the whale was about four meters long, its condition seemed weak and there were a number of wounds on several parts of its body," said the man, who is familiarly called Yusri Mampieitu.

Residents, said Yusri, had actually tried to push the whale into the middle of the sea, but because of his weak condition he was stranded again.
He said that handling stranded marine mammals requires the right way so as not to worsen their condition.
This incident, said Yusri, is a reminder that the community needs education on the initial handling of stranded marine mammals.
"With proper handling and adequate equipment support, the chances of the animals returning to their habitat will be greater," he said.
Even though it has been successfully evacuated to the deep sea, Sahabat Penyumasih continues to monitor the post-evacuation developments.
"Tomorrow (Friday) we will still monitor the post-evacuation developments, to ensure that the whale is really in the open sea," said Yusri.
