Malaysians Circulate Liquid Narcotics In Tanjungpinang, Sell In The Form Of Liquid Vape

KEPRI - Tanjungpinang Police in the Riau Islands (Kepri) arrested a foreign national (WNA) from Malaysia with the initials VWC (34), for bringing liquid synthetic narcotics to the area.

Tanjungpinang Police Chief Kombes Pol Hamam Wahyudi said that the disclosure of this case began with information from residents about a foreigner departing from Malaysia to Batam City, then continuing his journey to Sri Bintan Port (SBP) Tanjungpinang City to distribute narcotics, on May 30, 2025.

"At around 15.00 WIB, we managed to arrest the perpetrators at the SBP port. When arrested, the perpetrators were cooperative and admitted that they wanted to distribute the narcotics in Tanjungpinang," said Tanjungpinang Police Chief at a press conference at his office, Thursday, June 12, which was confiscated by Antara.

From the hands of the VWC perpetrators, the police secured evidence in the form of narcotics class I of liquid synthesis marijuana packaged in ten bottles of liquid vape, with a gross weight of 177.15 grams, then added a package suspected of being class I narcotics of methamphetamine, with a gross weight of 2.36 grams.

The police chief stated that the liquid narcotics are planned to be circulated in liquid vape, namely the liquid used in vape devices or e-cigarettes to produce steam when inhaled.

"The liquid will be injected two to three times into the container to store vape liquid (catridge vape), to then be smoked by the user," said Kombes Hamam.

Hamam explained that the discovery of the liquid narcotics was the first time this had occurred in Tanjungpinang. The illicit goods are produced abroad. The price is priced at around Rp. 3 million, for the size of a 10 milliliter liquid bottle.

Meanwhile, the VWC perpetrator acts as a courier or delivery of goods to the buyer/buyer. He gets a salary of RM1,300 or around Rp5 million if he manages to deliver the goods.

The perpetrator got a job distributing the prohibited object from a narcotics dealer with the initials A, who is thought to have come from outside Indonesia.

"This liquid marijuana type of narcotics is dangerous for users, because the side effects and reactions are very strong," he said.

The VWC perpetrator is now being held at the Tanjungpinang Police Headquarters to undergo further legal proceedings. The police are also still investigating this case, including finding out who ordered the liquid marijuana.

The perpetrator is threatened with being charged with Article 114 paragraph 2 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with the threat of death penalty, life imprisonment or a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years.
