PKB Legislator Praises President Prabowo's Courage To Revoke Permits For 4 Mining Companies In Raja Ampat

JAKARTA - Member of Commission XII DPR RI from the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction, Ratna Juwita Sari, appreciated President Prabowo Subianto's firm in revoking the permits of four nickel mining companies in the Raja Ampat area, Southwest Papua.

According to Ratna, Prabowo's decision is a step forward in environmental protection efforts. Especially in areas that have extraordinary biodiversity wealth.

"I certainly appreciate the courage and firmness of Mr. President Prabowo in revoking mining business permits which are considered not in line with the principles of sustainable development, especially in areas as unique and as rich as Raja Ampat," said Ratna in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 10.

However, the PKB legislator for the East Java IX electoral district reminded the government to make the decision to revoke this permit a momentum to improve overall mining sector governance.

Ratna emphasized the importance of the government's prudence in granting mining business permits, especially in areas that have high ecological value.

"The government must not be careless in issuing mining permits. Every permit must go through an in-depth study, both from environmental, social, and economic aspects. Otherwise, it will cause permanent damage that cannot be corrected," he said.

Ratna also encourages the government to increase transparency and public participation in the licensing process, as well as strengthen supervision of mining activities that have been running so that there are no violations in the field.

"We need a joint commitment in protecting the environment for the future of generations," he concluded.

Previously, the Government decided to revoke four nickel mining business permits (IUP) in Raja Ampat Regency. The decision was conveyed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia in a press statement at the Presidential Office, Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, June 10.

"What we are withdrawing are PT Anugerah Surya Pratama, PT Nurham, PT Mulia Raymond Perkasa, and PT Kawei Sejahtera Mining. This is what we are withdrawing," said Bahlil.

According to Bahlil, President Prabowo Subianto has special attention and is serious about making Raja Ampat a world tourism and state sustainability.

"Jadi ditanya apa alasannya, alasannya adalah pertama memang secara lingkungan. Yang kedua adalah memang secara teknis setelah kami melihat ini sebagian masuk di kawasan Geopark. Dan ketiga keputusan ratas dengan mempertimbangkan masukan dari pemerintah daerah dan juga adalah melihat dari tokoh-tokoh masyarakat yang saya kunjungi," katanya.
