The Legislative Council Of The House Of Representatives Has No Problem Revision Of The Election Law Discussed Through The Special Committee

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR Ahmad Doli Kurnia, emphasized that his party had no problem if the discussion on the revision of the Election Law was carried out through a special committee (special committee) mechanism.

According to Doli, the most important thing is that the revision of the law will be discussed immediately. The reason is that the urgency of the law is in perfecting the democratic and electoral system in Indonesia. It's better to discuss it faster. Want Commission II, Baleg, or special committee, for me, it doesn't matter," said Doli when contacted in Jakarta, Monday, June 9, reported by Antara.

Doli explained that the revision of the Election Law which will be discussed in this period has the potential to incorporate three major laws, namely the Election Law, the Pilkada Law, and the Political Party Law. This step is part of the follow-up to the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK).

Doli emphasized the importance of involving various stakeholders, including civil society, academics, and election observers in the discussion process.

"This is not an ordinary law, it takes a long time and in-depth discussions from many parties," he added.

Even though Baleg is currently the main initiator of the drafting of the revision of the Election Law, Doli said the decision on who will discuss it depends on the results of the consultation meeting between the leadership of the DPR and the factions of political parties.
