JAKARTA - A total of 15 students from the Sultan Idris University of Education (UPSI) Malaysia died in a bus accident with an MPV private car at KM53 Jalan Raya Timur-West (JRTB) Gerik, Perak, Malaysia on Monday morning.
Named in his report, the accident occurred when the bus hit the back of a private car. As a result of the collision, the bus overturned into a ditch by the side of the road.
A total of 48 victims were evacuated by officers, including 13 people who died at the scene and two others were injured and could not be rescued after being rushed to the Gerik Hospital.
Seven other victims were in critical condition, 20-mi-critical, and six minor injuries were treated at the Geric Hospital.
Malaysia's Minister of Higher Education Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, in a post on Facebook, announced that UPSI had established antemortem posts and emergency telephone lines.
The accommodation assistance for the victim's family was also coordinated with the Ungku Omar Polytechnic at Ipoh and Gerik Community College.
UPSI Deputy Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr. Md Amin Md Taff said that the university has assigned one staff member to each affected family to ensure that all closest families receive the right assistance.
