JAKARTA - Ryanair's plane to Milan was forced to make an emergency landing in southern Germany on Wednesday night due to intense turbulence caused by thunderstorms. Police said nine passengers were injured.

Flights from Berlin landed safely in Memmingen, about 115 km (70 miles) west of Munich, after bad weather prompted pilots to make an emergency landing, Bavarian police said.

Reported by Reuters on Thursday, June 5, among the injured was a woman who suffered a head injury, a two-year-old toddler who suffered bruises, including a 59-year-old woman with back pain complaints.

The three were hospitalized, while the other injured victims were treated by medics at the scene.

Ryanair said in a statement on Thursday the aircraft captain had requested medical assistance before landing.

The airline then apologized to those affected.

The airline provided bus services from Memmingen to Milan on Wednesday night as well as replacement flights on Thursday morning local time.
