JAKARTA - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon ensured that a budget of IDR 9 billion for Indonesia's historical rewriting program had been approved and disbursed through the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).
"It's already from the APBN, it's done. We told you seven months ago when I went to the DPR," said Fadli when met in Cibubur, West Java, Antara, Sunday, June 1.
He said the process of rewriting the national history book had started in January 2025 and was targeted for completion in August 2025.
"If there is no budget, where can the discussion come from?" continued Fadli.
Furthermore, Fadli revealed that his party is targeting the implementation of public trials in July 2025.
"So far, we are targeting maybe in July we will conduct a public test," he said.
The rewriting of the Indonesian history book was carried out by a team of 113 writers, 20 volume editors, and 3 general editors. The team consists of historians and academics from various fields, including archeology, geography, history, and other humanities, which come from various regions in Indonesia, from Aceh to Papua.
According to Fadli, the approach to bookwriting is carried out inclusively and in Indonesia-centricly, covering various important periods in the nation's journey, from the early history, the colonial period, the war of independence, the reform era, to the election of the contemporary era.
He emphasized the importance of updating history books to enrich the knowledge of the younger generation about the nation's journey. "This is important so that the nation's history can be understood more fully by the next generation," he said.

Previously, in a meeting with Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Monday, May 26, it was agreed that the rewriting of Indonesia's history must involve more stakeholders so that the results are more objective, comprehensive, and represent the nation's collective memory.
Commission X also encourages the Ministry of Culture to improve communication patterns and increase socialization so that the process of updating history books does not give the impression as a single narrative from the government.
