JAKARTA - The police revealed the reasons behind the suspension of detention of dozens of Trisakti University students who were previously arrested after a demonstration that led to chaos at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 21.
The Head of the Public Information Sub-Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, AKBP Reonald Simanjuntak, explained that the main consideration for the suspension was because the students were still actively undergoing lectures.
"The consideration of the suspension is because students are still actively studying, some will even face a test," said Reonald in his statement, Sunday, June 1.
In addition, the students have stated their commitment not to repeat their actions. They also guaranteed that they would not run away or lose evidence.
"They also guarantee that they will not repeat their actions, do not destroy evidence, and do not run away," he added.
The suspension of detention was also supported by guarantees from the family. However, Reonald emphasized that the legal process was still ongoing, and the status of the students was still a suspect.
"It does not mean that the case has stopped. The legal process continues because their status is still a suspect. This suspension is solely due to the considerations of their future that can still be fostered," he said.
Meanwhile, regarding three students who tested positive for drugs based on the results of a urine test, Reonald said that they had been handed over to the Directorate of Drug Investigation of the Metro Jaya Police.
Two of them, namely students with the initials ICW and JNP, have undergone an assessment and are currently undergoing a three-month rehabilitation period.
"The results of the two people's assessment showed that they could be rehabilitated. They are currently undergoing rehabilitation for three months," he said.

As part of the terms of suspension, all students concerned are required to report twice a week, namely every Monday and Thursday. The mandatory reporting schedule will adjust to their respective lecture schedules.
"If there is a clash with college, then the mandatory reporting schedule can be transferred to another day or hour," concluded Reonald.
