CIREBON - West Java Regional Police are investigating the alleged negligence in the C excavation landslide incident on Mount Kuda, Cirebon, which resulted in dozens of casualties.

West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan said the investigation of the landslide incident was to follow up on the revocation of the Mining Business License (IUP) by the governor of three mining management companies in the area.

The investigation has been ongoing since a day after the incident occurred. A number of witnesses have been examined to reveal the cause of the mining accident allegedly triggered by mining methods that are not in accordance with procedures.

"Since yesterday several witnesses have been questioned to find out the cause of this incident. We received information that there was an error in the mining method," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 31.

The West Java Police Chief emphasized that if it was proven that there was negligence in the application of safety operational standards, the legal process would be continued in accordance with the provisions of the applicable laws and regulations.

In this case, said the Kapolda, there were several laws that were applied, namely laws related to mining, work safety, the environment, and Article 359 of the Criminal Code regarding negligence that caused other people to die.

"We will take action," he said.

The Regional Police Chief appreciated the West Java Provincial Government for taking quick steps by evaluating the licensing aspect and giving administrative sanctions to three mining managers.

He ensured that law enforcement would run in parallel with administrative evaluations to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

Examination of related parties will continue to be carried out, to gather evidence and ensure legal accountability.

"We are coordinating with relevant agencies to explore all aspects of violations," he said.
