KPK Reminds Officials Not To Accept Gratification After Crowded Investigations By The Ministry Of Public Works

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reminded officials not to accept gratuities for whatever reason. They must refuse at the first opportunity.

This was conveyed by KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo in response to the alleged receipt of gratuities by officials at the Ministry of Public Works (PU).

"KPK continues to remind state administrators and state civil servants (ASN) not to accept / provide gratuities," Budi said as quoted on Saturday, May 31.

Budi said that this warning had actually been conveyed by his institution many times. "Even the KPK has also conducted monitoring and evaluation (monev) related to gratification prevention and control for all ministries, institutions, BUMN, and BUMD on Tuesday, May 27," he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the receipt of gratuities by officials from the Ministry of Public Works, Budi said, the KPK through the Directorate of Gratification and Public Services, the Deputy for Prevention and Monitoring will coordinate. This step is to follow up on the results of the investigation by the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Public Works.

"KPK will conduct an analysis of the findings of the investigation. We appreciate the quick steps taken by the Inspectorate in processing these alleged violations," said Budi.

As previously reported, the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Public Works (Irjen PU) investigated allegations of gratification by officials from the Ministry of Public Works. As a result, Rp10 million and 5,900 US dollars were found in the context of his son's marriage.

"Current cash has been confiscated by Inspector General and will then be returned to the giver because the money is a personal money that is intended to help/support a series of wedding events," reads an excerpt from the investigation signed by Inspector General of Public Works Dadan Rukmana.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo admitted that he had received a report on the alleged gratification. He knows that there is an audit of a head of the bureau who collects money for the wedding of the daughter of a PU official.

"I have received a report from Mr. Inspector General a while ago, but I have ordered Mr. Inspector General to follow up. We have not received further reports," said Dody.

Dody admitted that he submitted the full examination process to the Inspector General of the Ministry of Public Works Dadang Rukmana. He also did not want to speculate on the potential to continue the examination process to the criminal realm.

"If for example it is felt like the Inspector General will have a criminal element. He must have transferred it to the KPK, prosecutor's office, or the police," said Dody.
