JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspects the point of sea silting from the top of the Interest Raflesia Tunda (tugboat) at the entrance to Baai Island, Bengkulu.

The silting of the sea is the cause of disruption of logistics stability and energy distribution in the Bengkulu area.

Vice President Gibran arrived at Bengkulu Port at 15.00 WIB, boarding the Tuunda Bunga Raflesia ship.

The ship took Gibran to the point of sea silting. On his way, the Vice President listened to the explanation from the President Director of PT Pelindo Arif Suhartono regarding the chronology of sedimentation and efforts made to overcome this problem.

"We from Pelindo are currently preparing a massive dredging to restore the depth of the flow to minus 6.5 meters in the near future," Arif said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 27.

Arif said that at the next stage, his party targets to reach a depth of minus 12 meters so that large ships, including coal and logistics carriers, can enter without the need for "transplication".

He said the dredging had entered the stage of installing pipes and the readiness of dredge ships, and it was targeted that within the next two weeks the flow could be passed, although not yet at maximum width.

The full dredging is planned to be completed in three to four months, and further development will begin early next year.

On this occasion, the Vice President also emphasized the importance of accelerating dredging as a form of state responsibility to restore the activities of the affected communities, especially on Enggano Island.

The Vice President also emphasized the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration so that the handling process runs effectively and sustainably.

"The vice president emphasized that this work must be done as quickly as possible so that the affected people, especially those in Enggano, can recover soon. He also asked all parties to support and collaborate," said Arif.

This visit confirms the government's commitment to ensuring the smooth running of port infrastructure as a national logistics pulse, as well as strengthening maritime competitiveness in the western region of Indonesia.
