JAKARTA - The World Food Program (WFP) warned on Thursday that limited humanitarian aid recently allowed into Gaza was far from sufficient to prevent the threat of threatening hunger in the war-torn enclave.

In a post on its official X account, the WFP emphasizes the urgent need to deliver a larger supply of staple food to the population in Gaza, stating: "Roti alone is not enough for people to survive."

The statement comes as several WFP-backed bakeries resume operations in southern Gaza following the arrival of small amounts of flour.

While welcoming the revival of some bread production, the UN agency warned that the scale of aid was still very inadequate.

"A number of bakeries in Gaza are back to roast bread after receiving limited supplies overnight," WFP was quoted as saying by WAFA May 23.

"This is an important first step, but aid should be increased. More staple food is needed to reduce the risk of hunger."

The organization reiterated its call for food aid and basic needs on a large scale to be given on a sustainable basis to prevent mass hunger, as Gaza continues to be hit by a devastating humanitarian crisis due to the full blockade of Israel since March 2.
