Batang Resort Police, Central Java, revealed a case of motor vehicle theft (curanmor) committed by two married couples who still have a sibling relationship.

The four perpetrators each had the initials RB (32), AR (20), AT (21), and YK (24). They were residents of Pekalongan Regency and were arrested while in action in the Sigandu Beach tourist area.

"We arrested the four suspects while stealing motorbikes. What is surprising is that they are two pairs of husband and wife and still brothers," said Batang Police Chief AKBP Edi Rahmat Mulyana at a press conference in Batang, Antara, Tuesday, May 20.

It is known, RB, who is the older brother of AR, works as a mechanical officer. Meanwhile, AR is still a student. RB's wife, AT, is a housewife, and YK who is AR's wife works as a household assistant.

The motive for the perpetrators of the theft was to buy drugs. This is also reinforced by the results of a urine test which shows that the four suspects were positive for using drugs.

In the action, RB invited AR and their two wives to visit Sigandu Beach with the intention of stealing. They then devised a strategy, starting from observing the surrounding conditions to executing theft.

"Initially AR intended to steal a visitor's cellphone, but RB suggested stealing a motorbike because it was considered more profitable," said Edi.

After the situation was deemed safe, the perpetrators managed to get away with the visitor's motorbike.

From the results of the investigation, it was known that the money from the sale of stolen motorbikes was used to buy drugs.

The police chief appealed to the public to be more vigilant, especially when at tourist sites, and not to leave vehicles or valuables without supervision.

"Crimes can occur because there are intentions and opportunities. Therefore, it is important to narrow the space for perpetrators to move by increasing vigilance," said Edi.
