JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto said that the government had started drafting the Draft Law (RUU) on the Second Amendment to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (Pemilu) which was said to be a package of Political Laws.
"The Ministry of Home Affairs is currently drafting, and we are opening a very large public space," Bima said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 19.
According to him, the public's great aspirations in drafting the bill will produce a higher quality UU.
Bima Arya said that the drafting of the bill should not only rely on political interests, but must absorb the aspirations of various researchers or academics.
"Everything has been debated behind us, which we must continue in the future," he said.
The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs explained that the bill was actually an initiative from the Indonesian House of Representatives. However, the government also has its own perspective for the bill.
Currently, he said, the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) also has its own study of the bill. In addition, the Ministry of Home Affairs also needs to coordinate across ministries, starting from the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs, to the Ministry of Law.
"Now we are coordinating to finalize the government's view," he said.

On the other hand, Bima Arya said Indonesia had gone through a number of the most complicated political events in the world.
According to him, the last election also left various evaluation records, but that doesn't mean the system that has been used will all be dismantled.
Therefore, the drafting of the bill must not ignore the history that has been passed and must study all decisions of the Constitutional Court related to the judicial review of the Law on Elections.
"We are trying to make codifications right now. Wherever it needs to be focused, not all of them are not necessarily, but very crucial issues," he said.
