AHY Orders Democratic Cadres To Encourage Discussion On Revision Of Election Law

Deputy Secretary General of the Democratic Party Jansen Sitindaon said Chairman of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono alias AHY ordered his cadres to encourage the revision of the Law or Bill on General Elections (Pemilu) to be discussed immediately.

"If you can go back and forth, this Election Bill will be discussed from now on, that is indeed the order of our General Chair, Mas AHY," Jansen said in a discussion reported by ANTARA, Monday, May 19.

In the future, he said the Democratic Party would hold similar discussions regarding the Election Bill.

In the discussion, Jansen wanted to explore various proposals for the implementation of the general election system in the future, including the idea of a closed or open legislative election, and the political system after the nomination threshold decision.

On the other hand, Jansen said President Prabowo Subianto's proposal regarding the Pilkada chosen by the DPRD also needed to be discussed. The reason is, it takes into account expensive political costs.

Meanwhile, the Board of Trustees for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) Titi Anggraini said that the revision of the Election Law would need to be followed up with simulations. According to him, the revision should not be delayed for discussion.

"That's why it must be discussed now for the Election Bill, so that we have a simulation like that. Don't let it be at the end, the simulation is in a hurry, the system is not established," said Titi.
