President Prabowo-PM Thailand Agrees On Halal Industry Cooperation

JAKARTA - Presiden Prabowo Subianto dan Perdana Menteri (PM) Thailand Paetongtarn Shinawatra sepakat membentuk kerja sama pengembangan industri halal antara Indonesia dan Thailand.

According to President Prabowo, cooperation in the development and standardization of the halal industry can increase the value of trade between Indonesia and Thailand, which currently reaches 18 billion US dollars.

"We also want to improve the development and standardization of the halal industry as well as the digital economy in the field of fintech, e-commerce, and infrastructure," said President Prabowo when delivering a joint statement with PM Paetongtarn after a bilateral meeting at Government House, Bangkok, Monday, May 19.

"We are also committed to holding a First Joint Trade Commission in the near future," added Prabowo.

In Southeast Asia, the halal product industry is not only controlled by Muslim-majority countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia, but there is also Thailand which since 1948 has had its own body to issue halal certification.

Therefore, the discussion on the halal industry was also one of the topics discussed in a bilateral meeting between the Indonesian government and the Thai government at Government House today.

At the same location, PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra said the cooperation between the halal industry was included in the food security area.

"For the food security area, we agreed to increase cooperation through the trade in agricultural products, as well as the halal industry," said PM Paetongtarn.

Regarding food security, President Prabowo said that Indonesia and Thailand want to focus on strengthening the security of supply chains, and forming a joint venture for food management and storage.

Not only that, in other fields, for example energy, President Prabowo said that Indonesia and Thailand plan to reactivate the Indonesia-Thailand Energy Forum.

"We are opening up opportunities for entities from Thailand to participate in the Indonesian energy sector, and we will also reopen the Indonesia-Thailand Energy Forum this year," said President Prabowo.

In a bilateral meeting at the Government House, the delegation of the Indonesian government accompanying President Prabowo consisted of Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Cabinet Secretary Lt. Col. Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand Rachmat Budiman.

Meanwhile, PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra was accompanied by a delegation from the Thai government consisting of Deputy Prime Minister of Phumtham Wechayachai, Anutin Chanvirakul, and Ministers Chusak Sirinil, Jiraporn Sindhuprai, Tawee Sodsong, Akanat Promphan, and Deputy Minister ofTENness,poom Rojanasakul.
