JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal supports the commitment of the West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan to eradicate thuggery acts in West Java. According to him, thugs under the guise of community organizations must be brought under control immediately.
"West Java is commonly known as an area with many 'premanism' mass organizations. Now it will be brought under control by the Kapolda, of course we appreciate this because thuggery in West Java has disturbed the community so that it must be eradicated," said Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, Monday, May 19.
As is known, the West Java Provincial Government signed a memorandum of agreement and a joint commitment to improve security in areas with the West Java Regional Police and Polda Metro Jaya. This agreement aims to improve security and order throughout West Java, including the peace of the citizens.
According to the West Java Police Chief, the technical security that will be carried out includes patrols with the TNI and Satpol PP. Then the construction of security posts in various locations, including industrial areas, settlements, markets, and housing construction projects.
Cucun welcomed this. Given, acts of thuggery wrapped in mass organizations not only disturb the community, but also disrupt the investment climate in the regions, including West Java.
"Of course, the DPR is very supportive and ready to oversee this program. There should be no place for thuggery in West Java, including thuggery under the guise of mass organizations," said the legislator from the West Java II electoral district.
Cucun, who is also a member of Commission III of the DPR with the field of work for law enforcement affairs, said that the existence of mass organizations that deviate from their social functions has disrupted the order and sense of security of business actors. Even their actions are accompanied by intimidation, extortion, and violence.
In many industrial areas, especially in Jabodetabek, certain mass organizations are often found to force participation in projects. Starting from collecting 'security money' to asking for THR rations when the holiday arrives.
"Practices like this certainly reduce investor confidence because acts of intimidation and extortion disrupt business operations," explained Cucun.
Cucun also understands the concerns of the Indonesian Industrial Estate Association (HKI) regarding the actions of mass organizations that disrupt industrial operations. Where some of them carried out demonstrations, sealing, and even demanded tah' in the construction of factories.
"We have often heard that debt collectors are forced to take people's vehicles on the road, even though the default business is not resolved in this way. Such practices are very disturbing to security stability," explained Cucun.
The chairman of the DPR, the coordinator of the people's welfare sector (Kesra), also highlighted how acts of thuggery disturbed the community, such as asking traders for rations in the market to create riots in several public facilities. For this reason, Cucun supports the firmness of the police, including the West Java Police Chief.
"The firmness of the Regional Police Chief will ensure that thuggery practices in West Java can be minimized. The state must not lose to groups that commit violence and intimidation. There must be strict sanctions in order to make these 'premans' deterrent," he said.
In the long term, Cucun encourages the Government to design strategies that touch the legal, social and political aspects. Including conducting audits and clarifying the legal status of registered mass organizations.
"Is it true that mass organizations have carried out social functions or just 'legal clothes' for informal power groups," said Cucun.

"Steps like those taken by the West Java Police Chief are proof that law enforcers are not playing games in overcoming acts of thuggery," he added.
