DPR Values Handling Corruption By Adding Party Funds Not Effective

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Riefky Karsayuda, assessed that the provision of greater funds to political parties through the state revenue and expenditure budget (APBN) was less effective in eradicating corruption.

Riefky said this when responding to the opinion of the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Fitroh Rohcahyanto, who stated that the proposal to increase funds for political parties was to prevent corruption.

"In my opinion, the solution given by the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK is too simple if the goal is to eradicate corruption against political actors who are part of political parties so far," said Riefky in Jakarta, Saturday.

The people's representatives who are in charge of the domestic government, land, and empowering the apparatus then mention several things that make political costs in Indonesia expensive, one of which is the rampant practice of money politics in elections.

This practice, he continued, made voters only choose one candidate for pragmatic reasons so that political parties needed very large funds.

"This is what makes political parties provoked to be involved in corruption cases," he said.

He said that his party only fixes political parties and funding their political parties without conducting education, imposing sanctions, and all kinds of things related to voters.

In addition, it is a factor of personal desire to enrich oneself with corruption. In this case, Riefky agrees to strengthen the handling and prosecution of the law rather than adding funds for political parties.

In this area, according to him, of course it will never be completed only by providing large funds. In this context, law enforcement and enforcement or eradicating corruption are keywords.

Therefore, he hopes that the KPK can strengthen the handling and law enforcement sector in the field of corruption within political parties.
