JakWIFI Budget Is Rp. 6 Million For Each Expensive Point, The Budget Is Better For Adding KJP Recipients

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission A DPRD DKI Mujiyono regrets the high monthly cost of procuring JakWIFI which was initiated by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan. Currently, the free Wi-Fi facility for residents costs IDR 6 million per month per point with a total of 1,183 points currently.

In fact, Anies plans to expand 2,300 JakWIFI points in other locations in July 2021. From that high price, Mujiyono asked Anies to postpone the expansion of JakWIFI.

"We ask that the expansion of JakWIFI in 2021 be postponed because of the cost," said Mujiyono to VOI, Friday, April 30.

According to Mujiyono, the fees that must be paid each month are better used for other programs, such as increasing the number of students receiving the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP).

"Just put the budget into the additional quota for KJP. It can also speed up the vaccines for teacher teachers, to maintain the school as well, and to provide hand sanitizers for each school," said Mujiyono.

Mujiyono considered that the use of JakWIFI was not optimal. The DKI Provincial Government hopes that the Wi-Fi used is of high quality. The speed is up to 50 Mbps and the network is quite stable.

"But, when we had a recess, Commission A friends told us the signal was slow, buffering continued," said Mujiyono.

Anies installed JakWIFI which mainly aims to support underprivileged students so they can carry out online learning. In fact, many children and other residents use it for entertainment such as playing games and watching movies.

Moreover, said Mujiyono, President Joko Widodo asked all regions to hold face-to-face schools simultaneously during the new school year of July 2021.

"In accordance with the president's request, face-to-face learning begins as of July 2021. Then, there is a possibility that JakWIFI will not really be needed for students studying online. Indeed, there are still those who need it, but not maximally when face-to-face is implemented," he explained.
