JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya has named a suspect in the Jakmania convoy crowd case to celebrate Persija Jakarta's victory in the 2021 Menpora Cup at the HI Roundabout. The suspect with the initials BR was said to be a Jakmania sympathizer.

"The initial suspect is BR," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus, Friday, April 30.

According to the police, BR allegedly invited Jakmania to hold a convoy to celebrate Persija winning the Menpora Cup on Sunday, April 25 evening. BR's invitation was spread through his Facebook account.

"We are still investigating this BR as a suspect because there were indications that he invited him through social media. As for the initial indication, the initial statement was that first he (BR) was not there. Secondly, he was just saying that come on, friends (convoy), because according to him every time Persija wins it will go that way so he reminds his friends even though he is not present, "said Kombes Yusri.

It is confirmed that the police suspect BR is not in direct contact with the Persija official. BR is also said to be not a member of Jakmania.

"Only sympathizers," said Yusri.

Previously, Persija Jakarta accused the Jakmania crowd at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout to celebrate the Menpora Cup victory as the act of a handful of individuals.

"Yes, according to the supporters, the Jakmania person. Of course it has been a long time since I told you there was no real need for (celebrations)," said Persija Jakarta President Mohammad Prapanca after undergoing an examination at Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, Wednesday, April 28.

When confirmed regarding the examination material, Prapanca said that he was asked for information regarding the Jakmania crowd at the HI Roundabout.

"The examination was related to yesterday's crowd. So, we will explain what we can explain," he said.

Prapanca also said that one of the investigators' questions was the communication and relationship between Jakmania and Persija.

According to him, the Jakmania and Persija administrators have appealed to supporters to adhere to health protocols by not creating crowds.

"At that time, we had installed a hashtag according to the organizers of the Ministry of Youth and Sports that the match was run without a crowd, without watching together," continued Prapanca.
