Heavy Rain For Two Hours In Samarinda Causes Three Houses Buried By Landslides

SAMARINDA - Rain with moderate to heavy intensity that flushed Samarinda City on Monday from 05.15 WITA to 07.25 WITA caused 21 puddle points and three houses to be buried by landslide material, which allegedly contained about four people in it.

"The heavy rain that lasted for approximately two hours resulted in an increase in the volume of water in various drainages and rivers in Samarinda. As a result, a number of main roads and settlements were affected by the overflow of water," said Head of the Samarinda City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Suwarso in Samarinda, quoted from ANTARA, Monday, May 12.

Based on the monitoring of the BPBD team in the field, there were 21 points identified as experiencing inundation with water levels varying from 30 to 100 centimeters.

The 21 points recorded for experiencing puddles include a number of roads and densely populated residential areas, including the Samarinda-Bandara APT Pranoto (Lempake intersection to Alaya intersection), Jalan Bitek (RT 07 and RT 01 Sempaja Siring Village), Jalan Citandui and Serayu (Rednah), Jalan Gunung Kapur, Giri Rejo, Kebun Agung, and Kartini (Lempane).

In addition, Jalan Daman Huri (River Pinang), Jalan Gerilya (River Pinang), Jalan Pramuka, Juanda, Kadri Oneng, AW. Syahranie, Lejen Suprapto, Wahid Hasyim I, KS. Tubun, Belimau (around SMAN 9), Mugirejo Dalam, Talangsari Luar, and Jalan Sayur (North Sempaja) with water levels reaching 100 centimeters.

In addition to puddles, the impact of heavy rains has also caused landslides in several locations.

Suwarso admitted that his party received reports of landslides on Jalan Bengkuring Raya (Gang Kalkung), Jalan Belimau RT 07 Lempake Village which damaged the weight of the house building, and what was worrying was landslides on Jalan Belimau Raya RT 22 Lempake.

"For the landslide on Jalan Belimau Raya RT 22, based on the initial information we received, there were three houses buried by landslides. We also received information that there were likely residents who were inside the house at the time of the incident," said Suwarso.

Currently, the Samarinda City BPBD team is deployed to affected locations to carry out further data collection, help evacuate residents affected by inundation, and conduct assessments of damage caused by landslides.

The main focus at this time is to ensure the safety of residents, especially at landslide locations suspected of hoarding houses.

"We are coordinating with other related parties, including the police and volunteers, to immediately carry out search and rescue efforts at the landslide location at Jalan Belimau Raya RT 22. We urge the community around the location to be careful and follow directions from officers in the field," said Suwarso.

The public is asked to immediately report to the authorities if they see or experience events that have the potential to cause danger.
